Reading and writing are imperative in learning and especially during the early school years. All children must develop literacy skills, which is the ability to read and write. It is important to introduce literacy development before a child?s third birthday. During the preschool years, children will become more aware and interested in words and how they are used to represent thoughts. In Kindergarten, children will begin to dictate stories. Two different levels of reading and writing development I found interesting was Kindergarten and third grade. Kindergarten is the beginning of a child?s academic process. In third grade children utilize what they have learned in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and begin to take standardized tests.
